Mount Ballan Horse Trials (affiliated with British Eventing) is now in its' eleventh year, and once again in 2012 it will be held at the David Broome Equestrian Centre, an international show jumping establishment near Chepstow.
The Mount Ballan committee rent the site for the horse trials every year and we try not to disrupt areas that are used for future events by David Brome and his family which are held here all the year round.
We will be holding a Hog Roast on Saturday evening for Mount Ballan Horse Trials volunteers. Riders welcome at £5 per ticket.
Please be aware that this event is organised entirely by volunteers, including the organiser.
The Dressage arenas at Mount Ballan have been moved into a large field near the lorry park. Since 2010 the dressage field has been much improved with ground work and reseeding. The Show Jumping will be held in the all weather arena.
Press Releases / Special Notices
Announcement 13th May 2012
The organising committee and David Broome are working hard to make the running of the event at David's home, Mount Ballan, possible next week. Eric Winter has redesigned the cross country course on to the best draining ground. The dressage arenas are on grassland away from the International show jumping areas. The horse trials showjumping is held in the large all weather arena.
Lorry parking may be snug and it is hoped that all competitors will comply with officials when directed to park.
We are aware that there will be a need for extra ground work after the trials and feel that it is only fair that we offer the Landowner some compensation. The normal start fee will be increased to £15, the extra £3.00 will go directly to David Broome.
Fingers crossed for improved weather and I look forward to seeing you at Mount Ballan

Event / Course Information
Eventing Disciplines for Intro, Pre-Novice & Novice Classes
Dressage at Mount Ballan will be held on grass arenas, and the Show Jumping will be held in the all weather arena.
Consequently the dressage tests will be in a more peaceful environment for young horses and cause less congestion than in previous years.
The Cross Country course runs through the farm land surrounding the Equestrian Centre, and some of the parkland attached to Caldicot Castle, which is owned by Monmouthshire County Council.
Eric Winter is the course designer, Simon Grundy, Dave Thompson and their team present well built courses. Every effort will be made to present good ground conditions, the course will include a combination of fixed and portable fences and a water complex.
Changes to the courses are planned for this year with a new bank and fences on the novice course, some alterations to other courses. The ground is varied and undulating.
The ground where needed will be aerovated with an Earthquake machine. The same machine is also used for ground preparation in the grass show jumping arena for international shows held at the David Broome Events Centre.
